Our one-day online course covering key topics for managing blood test results in primary care. Ordering and filing blood tests is bread and butter primary care. But are we always as intentional as we could be when ticking the boxes on the request form?…and when results are filed, is there always a clear plan?
What we cover
The why: why am I doing this test? (and what will I do with the result?!); the importance of trends, as well as absolutes; who will follow up the results?
When is an ‘abnormal’ result satisfactory, and how can we identify the ‘normal’ result that is clinically significant
Haematological conditions including anaemia, leukaemia, B12 deficiency and thrombocytosis
Renal disease including acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease
Biochemical abnormalities including hyperkalaemia, hypokalaemia and hyponatraemia
Liver function tests
Endocrine tests including thyroid disease, parathyroid disease and calcium abnormalities.
Cardiovascular tests including NT-proBNP and lipid management
Inflammatory markers including their uses in PMR, GCA and myeloma
Tumour markers including PSA and CA125.
